Innovation for policy describes a real and growing field: government innovation labs, policy prototyping, and the organisations trying to bring design methods into public administration. Most of them are nonprofits or academic centres, and most have names too long to say comfortably.
Investment for people fits impact investing and social finance, an area with substantial capital behind it and a naming convention that favours mission statements over company names.
Three characters serves the practical requirement that these organisations actually have: an identity that fits next to funders’ logos, survives being printed at footnote size, and doesn’t get abbreviated inconsistently by partners and press.
