Maritime shipping moves roughly ninety percent of world trade by volume. It’s the least visible and most essential industry in the global economy, and it’s currently dealing with decarbonisation rules, route disruption, and a fleet renewal problem all at once.
The name is the exact term on the extension that the sector’s institutions use. Classification societies, trade associations, regulatory bodies, and research organisations in shipping are overwhelmingly .org, and there are a lot of them.
It fits an industry association, a standards or safety organisation, a research institute, an education and training provider, or a publication covering policy and regulation. Training is worth noting separately: seafarer certification is a large, internationally regulated market.
Two words, no hyphen, exact phrase, no regional spelling variation, and it names an industry that has existed for as long as trade has and cannot be replaced by anything.
