Reelcasts are the next podcasts. That’s the whole thesis and it’s worth taking seriously.
Podcasting became an industry because it gave independent creators a format with its own discovery, its own advertising market, and its own production economy. Short vertical video is now bigger than podcasting ever was, but it’s still described in platform terms: reels, shorts, TikToks. There’s no format-neutral word for the thing itself, which is exactly the gap “podcast” filled twenty years ago.
Reelcasts fills it. It takes the format word that creators already use and attaches the suffix that signals a serial, ownable, distributable body of work rather than a stream of individual clips. A creator makes reelcasts the way a creator makes a podcast: a show, not a feed.
The name fits a hosting and distribution platform, a production studio, an ad marketplace, a discovery app, or a publication covering the format. Nine letters, .com, no hyphen, and it names a category before the category has settled on a name for itself.
